London this time of year is a winter wonderland, with festive lights hanging in almost every street, shop windows filled with decorations, and Christmas markets galore! This makes it a great time of year to walk around and take in all the beautiful sights. We really enjoy walking around London and below we have listed some of our all-time favourite places to visit to get in your festive steps!
Southbank

One of the most beautiful places to visit, no matter the time of the year is Southbank. Situated along the Thames, it offers some stunning views and is a great place to get some London snaps. In the winter, it becomes a great place to visit if you want to see Christmas lights and displays, Christmas markets, and live entertainment. We suggest walking down here just when it starts getting dark in the day, grab a mulled wine and stroll down the river looking at all the market stalls and beautiful lights.
Covent Garden

Covent Garden is completely transformed at Christmas time. They have giant decorations both inside and outside of the market, a huge lit-up Christmas tree, and this year market stalls and igloo-type structures that you can book to eat and drink in. There is so much to see and do at Covent garden which makes it a great place to go for a festive walk. Here you can grab a drink and watch the live acts that perform close to the Christmas tree each day, look at the Lego stall that is there for December, and even catch some snow every hour, on the hour there.
Regent street

If you are a fan of Christmas lights, then Regent Street is a great place to walk down. ‘The Spirit of Christmas’ will be lit from 13 November 2021 – 2 January 2022, with the displays, switched on from 2 pm to midnight every day for a more sustainable display.
Oxford street

Close by to Regent Street is Oxford Street, so you could combine this walk into one. Oxford Street is mostly famous for its shopping opportunities and this doesn’t change in December, however now you have the fantastic Christmas shop window displays to look at too.
Wembley park

Wembley Park is celebrating togetherness this year with their Christmas lights at their ‘Reunited in Light’ Winterfest. It features returning favourites as well as brand-new commissions and new art installations. Here you can also find the family-friendly Christmas lights trail which ends with the 25m LED Christmas tree, a real showstopper! You are able to walk through the tree and get some fantastic pictures inside!
Trafalgar Square to Leicester Square

Both Trafalgar Square and Leicester Square have their very own Christmas Markets this year. We suggest starting your journey at Trafalgar square, taking a look at the fantastic tree which we receive each year from Norway and the beautiful nativity display underneath it. You can then nosy around the market before walking to Leicester Square where you can catch a show at the market there or grab some food or drink.
