Best things to do around Chichester

Chichester is a beautiful town found in West Sussex on the south coast. Chloe’s Mum lives down near Chichester and she had the pleasure of living there herself for a year. We visited Chichester and the surrounding area very often, so below we have compiled a list of things to do around the area that you should try out if you are visiting.

West Wittering Beach

We can’t talk about Chichester without mentioning the world-famous West Wittering Beach! If you haven’t been before then it is definitely somewhere you need to visit. Here you can find 4km of beautiful sandy beach, sand dunes, and captivating views. You can walk along the beach into Chichester Harbour, or you can go east where you will find shingle beaches at East Wittering and Bracklesham.

The beach is ideal for sunbathing, paddling and water sports such as surfing, paddleboarding, and windsurfing. There is a café, toilet facilities and showers here. West Wittering beach is also a popular spot for birdwatching.

Chichester Theatre

Chichester Festival Theatre is a great place to go and watch some first-class theatre performances. Shows here are often trialed before going to the west end, so you can see some really famous shows for a much cheaper price. You can find what is upcoming at the theatre here.

Goodwood

Goodwood is a famous racecourse in West Sussex and is found right next to Chichester. Here you can find horseracing and motorsports. Some of Goodwood’s most famous events are their ‘Festival of Speed’ and ‘Goodwood Revival’ that brings in thousands of people every year. Check out what they have coming up here.

Gunwharf Quays

If you like shopping then Gunwharf Quays in Portsmouth is the place to go. Just a 25-minute drive from Chichester Gunwharf Quays is home to over 90 famous brands, with outlet shops galore. Popular brands include Armani, Boss, Calvin Klein, Kurk Geiger, Lacoste, and Levi’s to name just a few. There are also plenty of restaurants and bars to be found here, which makes it a good place to spend all day at!

 Portsmouth Historic Dockland

Right next to Gunwharf Quays, you can find the Portsmouth Historic Dockland. Here you can see some of the greatest ships from modern history, learn what life was like beneath the waves and step up close to a submarine. Perfect for all ages, with the Horrible Histories Pirates exhibition, the Lord Nelson’s flagship HMS Victor and the only surviving boat from the First World War’s Gallipoli Campaign to marvel at.

South Downs Planetarium

The South Downs Planetarium was opened in 1992 by members of the South Downs Astronomical Society who wanted to establish an educational centre to promote astronomy, space, and Earth sciences on the south coast of England. They are open to the public, where visitors can experience the magic of the night, by getting up close and personal with the stars, moons, and planets in the sky on one of their guided tours. If you are a star and space lover, then this is a must-visit for you!

Chichester Watersports

Chichester has a water sports activity centre where you can partake in loads of different water sports such as Wakeboarding, Water-skiing, paddleboarding, and kayaking. They also have Aqua Park here, where you can bounce, climb, and slide around the inflatable park. Here you can also rent a lake lodge where you can stay overnight and have more time to enjoy all the activities available.
