Ealing Area Guide

Dan and I lived in Ealing for over a year and loved every second of it! Ealing already has strong routes in both our families and in our opinion is a great place to live, or visit if you are looking for a great day out.

The best places to drink

One of the best things about Ealing is that it has a great array of pubs to choose from. Below are some of our favourites.

The Grange

The Grange is a pub that is great for all seasons. It is home to one of the best beer gardens in Ealing, with the hidden suntrap turning into an oasis in the summer, whilst the inside turns into a cosy, comfortable place to shelter from the cold weather. They host a weekly quiz and often have film nights and show live sports events.

The North Star

The North Star combines the best in British pub hospitality with individuality, character and quirky charm. They are located at the heart of Ealing, just a few minutes walk from Ealing Broadway station, an area known as the ‘Queen of Suburbs’ on account of its leafy streets and detached Victorian and Edwardian houses.

If you’re looking for a lazy lunch, family dinner or social eats and treats with friends, The North Star offers tempting and flavoursome food, an explorative drinks menu and a genuine, welcoming atmosphere to suit all occasions.

The Forester

This was once our local and we were extremely lucky to have such a great pub literally down the road from us. The inside of the pub is spacious and well decorated. They offer craft beer, cocktails and wine and serves some fantastic food. They have a big beer garden and often host quiz nights, as well as show big sporting events live.

Drapers Arms

The Drapers Arms is a centrally located, bustling pub which hosts live music, including DJs and performers, shows live sports events and even offers bottomless brunch. What more could you want?!

No 17 Dickens Yard

If you are looking for something a bit fancier, then No 17 Dickens Yard is a great bar to visit. It is found right at the heart of the town centre and is known to be one of the best bars in Ealing Broadway. Here they have stunning interiors, a great range of drinks and food and a fabulous bottomless brunch option. The have even been awarded three stars by the Sustainable Restaurant Association which is a huge plus! They also offer private party options, and this is actually where we hosted our engagement party really recently!

Turtle Bay

If you are a fan of Caribbean food and cheap cocktails, then Turtle Bay is a must visit. They have a really quirky and young vibe and offer happy hours galore, which is great if you are on a budget.

The best places to eat

Sikulo

If you are looking for real authentic Italian food then you must try out Sikulo. Here they have woodfired pizzas, mouth-watering pasta dishes, authentic Italian deserts and plenty of great wine.

Kathmandu Nepalese Cuisine

I spent some time in Kathmandu when I trekked to Everest Base Camp and adored the food whilst we were there, so naturally the name of this restaurant drew me in. I am so glad we visited as the food here is amazing. We recommend sticking to the Nepalese dishes as this is obviously their speciality.

Retsina & Mousaka

Retsina and Mousaka is run by Cypriot couple Angelo and Maria and once you step inside the restaurant you are transported to a Greek island. Thy serve authentic Greek food here and honestly there is so much to try, you will be spoilt for choice.

Franco Manca

You might have heard of this chain before. At Franco Manca they serve amazing sourdough pizzas, including vegetarian and vegan options. The dough is made fresh on site daily and is proved for 24 hours before serving. You are able to fully customise your pizza by removing or adding toppings, which means you get exactly what you want.

The best parks

Warpole park

Walpole Park is located at the edge of Ealing Broadway behind Pitzhanger Manor House. When I lived in Ealing this is where I spent a lot of time, and it even became my local walking spot during lockdowns!

It is a beautiful park, with two ponds, a play area, a restaurant and café and the Pitzhanger Manor House and Gallery.

Gunnersbury park

Gunnersbury park is very beautiful and a great place to go to meet up with friends, take a stroll or play some sports! There are football facilities and plenty of shops around if you want to pick up a ice cream or grab a coffee whist you are there.

Pitshanger park

Pitshanger Park is located in the Brent River Park (BRP) and is designated as Metropolitan Open Land. It is a huge open green space with tennis, football, bowls and golfing facilities. There are also allotments, a playground and play centre here.

Elthorne Park

Elthorne Park was another place that I discovered during lockdown and it was a god send. Here you can find great big open space, with football, basketball and cricket facilities. It also links down to the river, so you can get some beautiful walks down there.

Things to do in Ealing

Ealing doesn’t have a lot in terms of entertainment going for it. However, because it is so well connected to central London that really isn’t a problem. We have listed some things you can try out below though whilst you are in the area!

Ealing Questors Theatre

Matlock Lodge, situated opposite Walpole Park, is home to the Questors Theatre, considered the largest amateur dramatic playhouse in Europe. It has a great reputation for putting on polished and professional pieces.

Open Ealing

Open Ealing is an arts initiative on the Uxbridge road, that has 5 floors of studios, classes, workshops, book clubs, exhibitions and a there’s even a café. It is a diverse and sustainable arts hub; a centre of culture creating opportunities, supporting local talent and emerging artists and a great place to visit as well!

Visit Areonaut in Acton

Just a short walks away (or train) in Acton is an amazing restaurant/ bar called Areonaut. Here they have a massive garden with booths that are circus themed. Areonaut often hosts quiz nights, poetry and comedy nights and so much more. It is also a great place to watch any live sport!

Grab an ice cream at Armorino

Love Ice cream? Then you will love Amorino as much as we do! Open until 10pm most nights, it is a perfect place to pick up an ice cream on a warm sunny day, or as desert after eating out!
