Things to do in Nusa Lembongan and Nusa Ceningan

Recently we travelled all around Indonesia for about 6 weeks. Our last stop was to the Nusa Lembongan Island, situated between Bali and Nusa Penida. The island is connected to another called Nusa Ceningan by just a metal yellow bridge.

We absolutely loved it on these islands and would go as far as to say that it was our favourite in the whole of Indonesia. There is a relaxed vibe, with enough amenities and things to do, which meant it felt like a real adventure and relaxed holiday all rolled into one.

Below is what we recommend you do if you are heading to one of these two connected islands.

Surfing

Nusa Lembongan has some great surfing opportunities, with three different break points, Playgrounds, Lacerations and Shipwreck. Shipwreck is great for advanced surfers and offers some huge waves, however it is quite a dangerous reef break if you are not an experienced diver, so only go there if you know you can handle it.

We personally surfed on Lacerations the most. It offered some amazing long waves over a point break. There are a few surf schools on the beach front that can give you a lesson or just help you get out to the locations by boat. If you don’t use a boat, your arms will be very sore, as the waves are found about 200 metres from the shore.

Nusa Ceningan also has a surf location called Ceningan Point, although we personally didn’t get time to visit it, but we have heard that this is also a really good spot, so check it out if you get a chance.

Snorkelling

Snorkelling is very popular around Nusa Lembongan and Nusa Ceningan due to the beautiful reefs and marine life found around the islands. The famous Manta Point is situated just a short boat ride away, which draws in tourists from all over due to the frequent Manta Ray visitors. We saw multiple companies scattered around the island offering snorkelling tours, taking you to various locations, so hop onto one of those if you don’t want to find it all yourself.

Scuba Diving

As mentioned above, the marine life around the island is amazing, so you can probably guess that scuba diving is also popular around here. If you are certified you can enjoy some deeper dives, however if you aren’t, you can still go to popular locations, like Manta Point, on a try dive and get up close and personal with the amazing Sealife.

Kayak through the mangrove

There is a huge Mangrove on Nusa Lembongan which you can kayak or paddle board through. It was a very peaceful experience and was so cool to slowly paddle through the overgrown bushes and trees.

However, don’t make our mistake and paddle all the way out to the sea from there. You will get stuck in an incredible current and have to paddle for your life to get back into the Mangrove!

Secret beach on Nusa Ceningan

On Nusa Ceningan there is a Secret Beach, however it isn’t really that secret anymore. If you are looking for a quiet location to either go on a hike, take a dip or do some snorkelling, make your way here. You can find it on Google Maps, hence why it isn’t actually that secret. It is only really accessible if you have a moped, as some of the road up to it is very narrow and bumpy, so it would be a difficult to get a car up there.

The View on Nusa Cennigan

We stumbled across an amazing restaurant and bar on Nusa Ceningan, called The View. It is situated on the top of the mountain on the island and has the best view of both the islands. Better yet they have an amazing infinity pool you can use! We went there one afternoon at around 2pm and we were the only ones there for the rest of the day. We think at the moment this is one of the best kept secrets of the islands!
